"Oh, touchy subject, I see." Gabriel couldn't help but say, his tone still slightly mocking. Still, after that he remained silent. It wasn't like it really mattered, anyways. He supposed he could understand why she'd want to pretend to be a man. As she'd said, she was an outlaw. It probably wasn't the safest thing to be when you were a woman. He'd heard of the things some outlaws did. No wonder she was dressed as a man. Anyways, it didn't exactly matter to him. Why should he care? As soon as she'd brought him to see a healer and he'd been healed, they'd go their own ways never to see each other again. Her problems were not his, and he had enough problems on his own to try fix those of total strangers. Besides, he'd never been one to exactly care about others, nor their problems.
That got him wondering. Had their places been reversed, had Marty been the one who was in need of a healer, would he have done everything he could to help her, as she was now doing for him? To be honest...he doubted it._________________________________________ Words: 207 Mood: So-so Notes: Oh, good idea. We can start a new post where they are actually there to see a healer, or something. Or we could even see if Mary would have Aithne come over to Britain, so that she could heal him. *reminds self to make a traveling healer at some point* [/size]

The silence that ensued after Gabriel had made his taunt was a welcome, if strained, reprieve, and Marty was grateful that he didn't further press. Hopefully, he'd just let it drop and they'd continue to the manor in a semblance of peace.
Still, Marian was painfully aware of the question that lay unanswered between them. That he'd guessed so easily meant that her disguise wasn't as good as she'd thought. Well, it'd managed to fool the Lords of Sherwood for so long, so why had it failed her now? The answer to that particular question, however, was not so easily found. For if she were to ask the actual question, she would admit to the answer to Gabriel's own. No, better to just wonder...
She sighed softly, and rather resigned herself. It was going to be a long ride.
