the plan: well, the plan is to get more role play posts for Constance and Paladin. However, because we're doing this in the first place, we intend to make this a little more audacious. Paladin's alone somewhere, Constance, the little girly in love with Paladin's eldest (failure of a) son and said (failure of a) son's best friend's younger sister, encounters him. They talk some, the end result of which being that Paladin, being the budding nymphomaniac that he is, propositions Constance. Constance refuses (because she's certainly not a loose woman, wanting to save herself for Peregrine) and Paladin in return tosses her ass into the dungeons. He's the king - he can do whatever he wants =D tagged: Constance Hawk, OPEN word count: 323 notes: first Paladin posty
One would normally think that, as ruler of Saor, of the Highlands and the Lowlands, and of the islands, king Paladin Alexander the first would be a very, very, very busy man. Too busy to sit on the dais that overlooked one of several palace gardens. Too busy to think yet again of his useless family, and of women. But there he sat, straight as a ram-rod, alone save for the tall trees and traveling birds. Which was unusual to say the least. In any other given part of the day, His Royal Magesty would be beset upon all sides by courtiers, dutiful servants, needy family members, avaracious nobles, and hopeful peasants. It was his life, and it consumed his time day in and day out. It was also his duty, as an Alexander and a leader of men. It was a thankless task more often than not, but it was something that had to be done.
However, whenever the tedium exceeded the man's patience, he slipped away and went to sit by himself in a quiet, secluded location. Sometimes it was his study, others a libray, and now, it was in the gardens, a place that Paladin seldom visited. He'd never really saw any point in having such vegetation within the castle walls, but it pleased the women, and it made for an excellent location to take advantage of some wench or woman. And there he was again - thinking of women, trying to avoid thinking of one woman in particular, and as it was, he found himself continuously sqelching the inclination of his fingers to drum themselves against the firm surface of the bench as contemplated yet again one of the many sources of his fustration. Of course the man forced his body to submit to his cold will, and of course the man betrayed not a thought that waltzed through his mind. He valued control too much for that to happen.

Why did Peregrine have to always be so hard to find? Constance sighed as she wandered through the halls in the castle, having had no trouble getting into the castle. She was a member of the Hawk, family, who happened to be close friends with the Alexanders. Still, she had been coming here as often as she could, to try spend time with Peregrine and get him to notice her, but he was always so hard to find. It didn't help that the castle was gigantic and she still had no idea where he most often went. So instead she would always just wander around, and if she passed a door that she thought there was a chance he would be in, she would go in and look around.
That's what she did now as she paused in front of the large doors to the garden, frowning as she wondered whether there was some chance that Peregrine would be in there. She was inclined to doubt it, but she didn't know him well enough to know for sure, so she decided that there was no harm in checking. So she opened the door and walked through, lifting her long skirt as she walked down the two steps and into the garden area. She wore a long white shirt that went down just below her knees, and a tight pink shirt that showed off her figure- yes, she'd resorted to that to get Peregrine's attention, hoping he'd notice she was a woman and then actually notice all of her. Maybe it was a bit of a slutty move, but she was getting desperate, so desperate that she'd even thought of using black magic every so often. For now she'd held herself back, but she wondered how long that would last for, should the Prince continue to not notice her.
She hadn't been walking for long when she realized she was not alone, noticing the king sitting on the dais. She fixed a polite smile on her face and moved forward, figuring the king would know where his eldest son was. As she drew closer, she gathered up her skirt and curtsied, her head low in respect. "Good afternoon, your majesty," She said, her voice quiet and polite, keeping her head down so that her sandy brown hair fell over her shoulders. "Would you know where I might find Prince Peregrine, by any chance?" She asked, finally looking up at him, polite smile still fixed in place._________________________________________ Words: No idea, too lazy to look. paladin post 2
aladin would have frowned had it not been unseemly of him to do so. She was so impertinant, knocking of the customary "greetings" that was said to others, and particularily those of a higher rank than them. "Greetings..." he said gravely, pausing slightly to indicate the importance of the word before speaking again. The pause was also used to summon the chit's name from the vestiges of his vast memories. "...Lady Constance Hawk."
He examined her outfit, and found it very much lacking, both in propriety and in material. Not that he did not appreciate the view, but he was a tad scandalized that a noble child would go about decked in such clothes. Did her mother know, he briefly wondered, and then instantly tossed that out the proverbial back door. Of course not, was the answer. It wasn't a concern of his; what was a concern of his was that the younger Hawk daughter was asking for his eldest son.
"We generally do not speak of Our son's whearabouts," Paladin said loftily, using the royal we with an easy and practiced tongue. Given half a chance, Paladin would gladly shove his son out of his life and away forever more. "We would think that yourself would be more conserned with your sister, Lady Diamond Hawk, rather than Our son," he added cooly, making it clear that he thought she should cease to toddle after the crown prince. He also thought she shoudn't be here, nor should her sister -- but that was neither here nor now.

Constance happened to notice the way the king paused after saying 'greetings' and she frowned slightly, lowering her head before hand so that he wouldn't notice. Whoops...her mistake, she'd completely forgotten about how saying 'greetings' was proper and stuff. Oh well. She forced a smile onto her face and nodded slightly, trying to act as though being in his presence didn't bother her, when really she could hardly stand it. He just striked her as being so judgmental. Still, he was king, she had to be super polite and everything around him.
"Yes of course, your majesty. I just thought that the Prince would be easier to find then my sister, and that perhaps he would know where she was." She wasn't about to tell the King her suspicions of Peregrine and Diamond being together, but she had to commend herself on the excuse. It sounded believable, at least in her own ears. She straightened and brushed down her skirt slightly before lifting her eyes to regard the king, still smiling slightly as she fought to not get annoyed at him.

tri!
His eyes took in how she kept that small, false smile pasted upon her face, of how she reacted when she'd understood the social blooper that she had made, of how she smoothed her skirts and tried not to fidgit. She was staring at him again. Oh, how he could just lift up those skirts and -- no, that was not what he wanted to do. What he truly wished, was to be rid of the idiots of his world, his sons, his daughters, his brother, his father, even the fool of a lass before him.
"The prince has departed from the castle once again," he said, "and most likely your sister followed suit." Thick as thieves, the two were, even when the times got thin. "We expect they shall return sometime on the morrow," he added off-handed, not particularily caring. The prince came and went so frequently that Paladin sometimes wondered if he should set up on inn and charge the boy for his lodgings.

Constance frowned slight as the King told her that Peregrine wasn't here, obviously disappointed. She'd come all this way for nothing, then. Constance sighed, wondered what she was supposed to do now. She didn't live very close to here, and she'd just gotten here. She didn't particularly want to hop on her horse once again and ride off. She hated riding horses. She could normally control them, but they scared her for she knew getting thrown off one's back would hurt. Normally she did it anyways, just so that she could come here and see Peregrine, but...
She also felt a small flair of bitter hatred towards Diamond, since her sister had taken Peregrine away. At least, she blamed Diamond. She hesitated, her eyes still on the King, small, polite smile still in place as she decided she might as well go home, that there was no reason to stay. She brushed down the folds of her skirt once again, a nervous habit of hers that she found she did quite often. "Oh, I see. Thank you, your majesty." She said, dropping into another curtsy. "I guess I should just be going, then. Sorry to bother you, your majesty." She finished, her head bowed as she held the curtsy for a few seconds out of respect.
((Bad, perverted king, BAD!))

"I guess I should just be going, then. Sorry to bother you, your majesty." She said it as subserviant as could be, dipping into a curtsy and holding it. He had half-expected that she wouldn't even remember to do that, and that she did surprised him a slight bit; not enough to bother him, though. What did bother him was that in showing him due respect, the girl had shifted her body a bit, and he had a rather nice view of bits that should only be seen by the lawfully wedded husband. Still, though he was a full-blooded male, the man chose to rise above the circumstances and not react - or, not react as much as possible. The man was still human, whatever stories the kingdoms told of him.
He was partially able to rise up due to sheer will; however, it was also made easier for him by the arrival of a pair of palace guards peeking checking out the garden and spotting Constance. "Oi, you!" one of them shouted, and the pair of them headed toward the dais where the young woman stood, presumably blocking their view of Paladin.

Constance straightened up, and it was then that she heard the guards coming up behind her. She turned, blinking in surprise while at the same moment her hand twitched slightly, subconsciously reaching for Deadly Embrace, which she kept strapped to her thigh. It was currently hidden from sight by her dress, but the fact that it was there just comforted her. Still, she stopped herself from grabbing it, instead just staring at the guards as they came towards her, wondering what she'd done wrong.
"Uh...yes?" She asked, confusion lacing her voice before she turned to face the king. "Did...I do something wrong?" She asked, not realizing that the guards seemed to think she was up there alone.

It was shameful, really, that there were actually guards this incompetent in his castle, Paladin was thinking. He was also considering if the Hawk child was an assassin sent to send the him into the deep sleep. However, the man discarded the thought the instant it began to form. He seriously doubted that the girl harbored any intentions to slay him, and he rather doubted that he was any danger at all -- at the given moment, at least, and most certainly not from the noble-born female. Regardless of his thoughts, the king hadn't remained king as long as he had by being stupid, and he wasn't about to assume one way or another; you knew what they said about that word...
"Did...I do something wrong?" the fair-haired lass said, lilting her voice ever so slightly to house the airs of confusion.
This seemed to fluster the guards a bit, and the one that had cried out continued to bluster. "State yer business in th' castle!" he demanded of her, a threatening scowl plastered upon his face. His partner bore a similar expression. Their hands, presumably their dominant hands, were inching towards the hilts of the swords. Hot-headed, these two. Volatile. It was, Paladin thought with some exasperation, time for him to make himself once again a part of the kingdom. His fleeting retirement from politics was short-lived, indeed.
"The young lady, We believe, was inquiring as to the whereabouts of Our son," he said casually as he stood up, unfurling his impressive height and revealing himself to the narrow-sighted guards. "Search her person for a weapon," he added sharply, a hard edge sliding over his voice as he changed the topic with a determined ruthlessness. Though he himself couldn't search her, his guards could in proxy; the nature of the weapon would be seen.

Constance just sort of stood there as the guards demanded she state her business in the castle, looking half surprised and half annoyed. She could see them reaching for their swords, inching to grab them, and it sincerely pissed her off. She'd just been having a friendly chat with the king, it's not like he'd called for them to come. Besides, what was so scary about her? It's not like she was large or muscular, in fact it was the opposite. She was petite and very feminine, and they were thinking that she was a threat? Of course, she could be if she wanted to be, but she wasn't trying to be at the moment, so the fact that she was being taken as a threat just pissed her off.
She nodded at the kings words, as he told the two brainless guards that she'd been inquiring about the Prince. She kept her lips pressed tightly together, not wanting to allow any insults to escape her- insults directed at the two stupid guards, of course. However, a moment later she whirled to face the king, her eyes wide and a look of barely suppressed fury on her face. "What!? But I haven't done anything! I'm not some criminal or lowlife, why should I have to be searched? I'm carrying nothing on me, I can tell you that now. There is absolutely no reason for me to have to go through such humiliation!" She said, doing her best not to yell at the king, though it was clear that she was furious. Well...furious and scared, though the later emotion was nearly undetectable. They'd find Deadly Embrace if they searched her, and not only would her precious dagger more than likely be taken away from her, but who know what the king would decide to do if they found that she did have a weapon on her? Assume that she'd been trying to kill her and throw her in the dungeons? So yes, she was scared, and trying to hide it behind anger.

Scarce was the fool that stood up to the king and yelled to his face. In fact, the only people that even attempted such doings were his near immediate family. Such things were discouraged, and it was really quite impolitic to show such a lack of regard toward the ruler of your realm - especially when this ruler had absolute power.
Lucky for this bitch, however, was that not only was he the king (and thus was not permitted [by himself, no less] to get angry at her and yell back [not that he would]) but he really just couldn't muster the neccessary amounts of ire to get angry. He was calm and controlled, deep within the still pool that rested in his center, where he retreated. Where his emotions were sealed. It was, nevertheless, high time he dropped the royal we's. "I daresay," Paladin mused, though there was nothing questing about the statement, though; he knew exactly what he was thinking. "Does not a king determine what's to be done and what's not?" he asked rhetorically, his sharp blue-green eyes fixing on her, almost challanging her to speak up again and dig her hole deeper and deeper.
"Search her," he commanded the guards again, booking no room for hesitation.

Constance opened her mouth to argue more with the king, before thinking better of it and forcing her lips closed once again, clenching her teeth as she glared at the king, furious. Well, this was going to go from bad to worse. The guards came forward and began patting her down, searching wherever they could for a weapon, and sure enough it wasn't long before one of them found Deadly Embrace, pulling it out of it's sheath on her thigh. She shut her eyes for a moment and sighed, before opening them once again and just watching as he presented it to the king. "Okay, so I had a dagger on me. For protection. It's not completely safe for a woman to ride around unescorted by a man, after all." She said, her tone slightly defiant, though she worked on not throwing in random insults as well.
((Yes...Didn't go into much detail about the search, cause I don't really know what they do, or where they look xD))

(Paladin wishes there were more details)
So he'd been right. She'd been armed. "It's not completely proper for a woman to ride around unescorted by a man, after all," the king retorted, his deep voice soft; and yet his intent was clear - the girl had no need of a weapon to protect herself. That was what mean were for. The exception of course being Constance's sister Diamond, but that was another story, with special circumstances, old friendships, and the will of a king. The younger Hawk sister, however, had different circumstances.
"Lying before a monach seldom goes favorably," he said steadily, carefully, completely ignoring his guards (or so it would seem). "I've half a mind to send you to the castle dungeons. Tell me, Constance Hawk," a pause, "why shouldn't I do that?"

Constance clenched her fists at the king's first words, annoyed. So was she just not supposed to move around because she didn't have a male to escort her? It was a wonder to her, how Peregrine was so different from his father. At least, she felt he was. He would make an amazing king, while his father was sexist, and creepy, and she was seriously beginning to hate him. Still, she said nothing to his retort, just watched him, purposely ignoring the guards. She now completely regretted having come here, since Peregrine obviously wasn't here and she was now going to lose her dagger and maybe even get thrown in the dungeons.
As he told her to tell him why he shouldn't send her to the dungeons, she wished she could say something along the lines of 'Peregrine wouldn't be very happy with you if you did...' but the sad truth was that Peregrine probably wouldn't even care. Heck, if she was thrown in the dungeons he probably wouldn't even find out about it, and if he did he probably wouldn't go visit her or anything like that. She was completely invisible to him...it made a girl seriously depressed sometimes.
Constance let out a sigh, and as she did so her shoulders slumped and she unclenched her fists, all of her anger disappearing. Her thoughts had pretty much depressed her, and she now just felt defeated. If he wanted to throw her in the dungeons, nothing she said would convince him otherwise. She shook her head, unable to come up with a good reason why he shouldn't throw her in the dungeons, other then it would be a waste of space. She wasn't dangerous, and he knew that. "...I'm sorry, you're majesty." She said, lowering her head and sounding defeated. She didn't think that he should throw her in the dungeons, but there was no good reason for him not to that she could come up with.

She appologized with bad grace, Paladin thought, displeased, not that that was a hard feeling for the king to come by - he was often displeased with the world around him. And that she thought she could simply appologize to make things right was rediculous. He really should just toss her into the dungeons, and let her father pick up his errant daughter.
As it happened, however, Paladin hadn't the inclination to go through the paperwork. Oh, they didn't tell you, but the running of a kingdom? One-third state functions and public appearances, and the rest of it paperwork. "Off with you, " he said boredly, waving her off with his hand. "Return to whence you came. And cease haring after him." No need to say who 'him' was. Him was Him.
