It was the first time she had ever been this far from her home. Her brother, Peter, was here in Orkney to make a public appearance and she wanted to go to see what it was like. The area was actually quite nice, and she didn't mind being there, not to mention the people were nice, in a weird sort of way.
Violet sat on a bench a short distance from where her brother was, waiting for the speaking to begin. Her brother was quite the speaker, of course when she was able to here him speak to people. He seemed to be able to draw them in. She wondered how that would work this time, since they were in a different area.
She looked around as people walked by and talked to eachother. She sighed a bit and looked down at her lap as she played with her dress. She was a little bit bored at this moment, but that should change soon, hopefully.
She looked back up to watch her brother get himself ready. "Peter, it doesn't take this long." She teased. "You're such a girl." She smirked at him as she crossed her arms. She had fun when she teased her older brother and most of the time he joked back, but he might not be in the mood since he was busy at the time.

i can read in your face that your feelings are driving you wild but girl you're only a child
"People of the islands," The prince began, his arrogant, deep voice ringing clear over the crowd that had gathered. Of course there was a crowd, he was a prince, a god in their eyes and he was the most powerful, the best-looking and the most skilled warrior of the three princes of Saor. But still, it wasn't like these people would know the difference; they did not have the education to know or the intelligence to figure it out. To them, he was just a prince, but that was enough.
"I come to you today with glad tidings. My uncle, King Paladin of the Caledonian Highlands and of the Orkney Islands, wishes you to know what Scoailtes forces have pushed back the Sceithian barbarians from the South. Saor's borders will not be violated!" He held up a fist for dramatic effect, drinking in the cheers and applause. Now anyone who thought he wouldn't make an effective King was either mentally oblivious or just plain stupid, or both.
______________________________________________
The weak winter sun glinted off a ruby set in the clasp of his cloak as a young outlaw wound his way in between a crowd of cheering islanders, ignoring as he jostled the various Caledonians. He was not here to to be polite and charming; he was here for money and money only. Of curse, the Scottish mainlands might have been a better bet, but Caledonia was more organized, smaller and faster o organize attacks and search parties than his homeland, Great Britain was. These people were perhaps not as foolishly proud as the British. Proud they were, but their sneakiness was often to their advantage.
Still, the Orkney Islands presented an opportunity that the mainland did not. It was quaint, remote or at least quainter and more remote than the mainland and Will had surmised that grand theft riches would be better kept quiet here than on the teaming Scottish mainland. There were more farmers and less warriors her. Of course, if he had been paying attention to the pompous idiot, who was currently feeding these simpleton islanders a load of crap, he would have been discovering just how correct his calculations were.
__________________________________
"But we cannot push them back any further, no can we attack and expect to win without great losses, great sacrifice of Scoailte lives." Peter Alexander continued, speaking in a solemn tone once more. There was muttering among the crowd as they heard these words and they shifted, one foot to another, uncomfortably, No one liked to talk about death out here. "Therefore, we need soldiers, warriors proud to defend their homeland!" Peter went on, enthusiastically and he repressed a smirk as his audience began to nod in agreement. "We need your sons, my lords, so that Scoailte blood may not be split. We need victory to take back what is ours!"

Casting one more glance around him, Will slipped behind the wall, peeking out from under his hood as he snuck into the woodworking frame, searching for whatever money he could find.

Violet sat there, watching and listening to her brother as he spoke to the people. His voice was strong as it spoke out amongst the crowd. He slightly amazed her, since she thought she probably wouldn't be able to speak out as well as her brother could.
The way he arroused the crowd was fairly amazing too and she clapped as the others did. Watching him, she could tell he was loving the attention the people fed to him. He was probably very proud that they were applauding him and cheering for him. She believed that he would make a great king if he could keep the peoples loyalty.
As he continued, she stood up, still clapping like the others. Violet actually agreed with what her brother was saying. They did need more soldiers, if they were going to get anywhere. Those Sceithians are a strong force, and they have to be stronger to defeat them. It was just as simple as that, and her brother knew that, as did everyone else who was smart enough to comprehend.
She looked around at the people surrounding her brother and herself. The area was full of people of Orkney. Men, women, even children. Still looking, she thought she noticed someone moving through everyone and not in a pleasant manner, but she ignored it, for it could be someone who simply wanted to get home, she didn't know, but she kept her gaze in the area, just to make sure. If she suspected any problems, she would just inform someone.

He surveyed the area and the corners of his mouth tugged upward into a smile. Completed deserted...perfect. Silently, he slunk through the wood-work like a giant cat slinks through a jungle, its voluminous eyes kept wide as it peered between their foliage, searching for prey. Will was like that giant cat and he made his way to one of the walls, following the sound of the boy's voice. He was a good speaker, which a deep, confident voice. He sounded almost...adult. Well, he probably was, but he still sounded far beyond his years.
That didn't change anything, though. Tilting his head up, he managed to make out what looked like the boy's shoe. Grinning, he sprung onto one of the beams, his weight so insignificant that the wooden beam didn't even groan. He leaned on it, trying to see up. He did not have a plan, but that didn't matter. Whatever he came up in the next few minutes, it was promising to be fun and who knew, he might even get around to robbing some rich boy and running back to Sherwood with his gold today.
What an offer.

Still keeping an eye on the area, being closer to the stage than the other islanders were, she noticed something, or someone go under. Violet squinted her eyes a bit. Maybe she was imagining things. Either way, it made her walk closer to the area where her brother was speaking. She kept a smile on and still clapped as the others did. She didn't want to seem like something was wrong, if there was nothing to worry about.
She stopped when she was at the edge of the stage. If someone was under there, they didn't have good intentions and she was not going to let anyone even get the chance to mess with her brother. She could've told one of the gaurds about it, but she decided to try to take care of it herself, in case she was imagining things.
Using her knowledge of poor people, Violet reached into her cloak and pulled out a small, satin coinbag. She smirked at it before she loosened it and dropped it to the ground by the stage, letting some of the gold fall out. She took a few steps away from it, to make it appear as if she didn't know it had fallen. If someone was under there, they would not pass up the oportunity to get a bit of gold.
Words: 226 Mood: Purty good Notes: I really didn't know what to do with this lol. I hope it's ok XD.

i can read in your face that your feelings are driving you wild but girl you're only a child
As the boy’s monologue got longer and received more applause, Will grew bored. This was certainly not very entertaining. In fact, this was anti-entertaining. The very list the prince could do was make his speech interesting. The outlaw thought he should include vanishing toilets and something involving ferrets. Either one would have gotten this crowd of numbskulls engaged tenfold, but if they were used together…in the same sentence…Will could only imagine how Prince Pompous’ popularity would shoot through the roof.
Is he ever going to shut up? He wondered, silently. Then, he realized that his mental complaint was the same that Robin or other annoyed members of the band used on him all the time. Well, if only they could be here right now, to this trained monkey, they would all have to re-define “loud and obnoxious”. Usually, the outlaws would combine those three words into a single one: Will. It simplified things. “’Tis the birds’ mating season once again. They’re so Will” or “In the name of Heaven, you’re Will!” or just, “stop being so Will.”
A glimmer of something caught his eye and Will spun around, his senses sharp. His eyes had seen the flash of something metallic, but his finely-tuned ears had heard the clink of something of monetary value. And just how did he become so skilled in the art of hearing the distinct chink of metal and deciding what form it had been made into? He was will, end of story. Silently, he reached down, nimble fingers scrambling for the coins.

Violet watched her coin bag as she continued to listen to her brother. She was hoping that someone or something was under there, so she wasn't imagining things. Just the thought of her being wrong made her stomach churn. She was going to wait a couple more minutes before she would gather up her coins and move away from the stage.
She looked up at her brother with a smile on her face. Now she was hoping that they would leave soon. Maybe he would stop talking at any moment and they would depart. Then she could just forget about what she saw, or thought she saw. She sure hoped she wasn't going crazy.
Violet brought her gaze back to her gold after a couple minutes of watching her brother. Bingo! A smirk took a hold of her lips as she noticed a hand grabbing for her gold. She walked back over to the coins and knelt down by the stage. She didn't care if people saw her. She knew someone was there. She looked under the stage to catch a glimpse of a blonde man.
She cocked her head a bit as she looked at him. He didn't look much older than her brother. "Excuse me, but unless you're some type of rodent or insect, I don't believe you belong under there." She stated with a questioning look upon her face. This man being underneath the stage made her wonder if he was mental or something. Who would go under a stage just to hang around? There had to be some logic behind it, if he wasn't a lunatic. She wondered if he was dangerous at all. At least she knew the guards were around in case anything happened.

His head jerked up as he heard her voice, but he allowed for no sound to escape his throat. She was pretty and around his age, give or take a few years. No, take them, so couldn’t be older than…seventeen…sixteen, at the most? Still, that didn’t stop for Will Scarlet from turning on his charm, even though she did not put him in a tight spot. There was no stealing going on at the moment and he could afford to have a little fun with her.
Smoothly, he straightened up, his slender frame barely reaching five feet and eight inches as he looked down at her, sending a stray lock of blonde hair over his shoulder by tossing his head, arrogance underlying in every movement. Then, instead of smirking, he grinned, flashing his mouth full of white teeth. He bent his head, neck and shoulders in a slight bow, but he did not trust her enough to lower his body any more than that.
“So sorry, my lady, I didn’t know you had such authority.” Then, changing tactics quickly, he went in a different direction. “You see, I am a rodent, but first I was a frog. Forgive me,” He paused, “no, don’t. I’m afraid I haven’t done anything to warrant such treatment. And besides,” He added, giving her the once-over, “I don’t see how you can tell me to leave when you give me no incentive to do so.”

After collecting her gold from the ground, Violet allowed herself to disappear underneath the stage. She stood up straight, placed the coin bag back in her cloak, and then crossed her arms over her chest. She studied the man who stood before her. He was indeed taller than her, which she didn't care about, but to her surprise she found him oddly attractive. She would not allow herself to stoop that low though. Never would she fall for the likes of him.
A smirk came to her lips at the sight of him bowing. At least he knew respect for those higher than himself. Her attention for him disappeared slightly as she glanced around her. She had never been under one of the stages and it was actually quite weird. Never did she think about going under one of them either.
When he began to talk her attention was brought back to him, though she had no care for what he had to say. "Uh huh, save it prince charming." She said in her normal snobbish tone when talking to those she didn't care for. She walked closer to him to close some of the distance between them, but she wasn't too close. She enjoyed her space, and she was sure he did too. "Now, what would someone be doing underneath a stage unless they were looking for trouble?" She asked as she let her hands move to her hips. She didn't trust this man at all, and it would take a lot for her to even consider trusting him.

“Prince charming? Prince charming?” Will said, smoothly. He paused, slightly, reaching up to grasp the wooden beam slightly above his head, still grinning widely. “But you wouldn’t be interested in my name, would you?” He swung around and jumped up onto a small flight of wooden stairs. One of the coins—her coins that he had retrieved from the ground was still in his hand and he tossed it in the air, catching it again with a graceful flick of the wrist. “I’m a British nobleman,” He supplied, moving through his suave, slick manner with barely a trace of the rugged outlaw he refused to become, “but I would classify myself as more of a rogue.” His grin became a smug smirk. Women liked rogues, in his experience. There was something about the rogue that the ladies usually found wild and attractive. Will was both. And he knew it. She started to approach him again and he put his hand up on the wooden beam, leaning in, his slender frame supported easily by the stage’s skeleton. A hint of stubble covered his face, a combination of his own procrastination and the unpredictable life of an outlaw. Bright teeth were revealed as he curled his lips back and tossed his head, causing his dirty blonde to flip over one shoulder. It was a habit he had formed, the gesture so arrogant that it would have sent the proudest of kings running for his life in the opposite direction. “Trouble? I never look for trouble,” his fawn-colored eyes sparkled, “trouble looks for me.” i can dance with you honey if you think it's funny does your mother know that you're out?

"I could care less about your name," Violet stated as she watched him reach up to the beam. "But if you were to tell me, I guess I'd be forced to listen." Her gaze followed the man as he jumped to some wooden stairs. She furrowed her eyebrows at the sight of him tossing one of her pieces of gold in the air. She didn't particularly care that he had one, since she had plenty where that came from. It was just the fact that she didn't know he had gotten any.
"How nice." She said, clearly not interested. She pondered what he had told her though. Why would someone from Great Britain be in Soar? She looked at him with curious eyes. Something didn't add up. "So, why so far from home?" She questioned, hoping to recieve a valuable answer.
When he leaned in she raised an eyebrow as she studied him once more, placing a finger on her chin. There was something about this man that slightly intrigued her, but she wouldn't admit that. Actually, if she were asked about it, she would deny it. He was just, different, from most of the peasants she had run in to. Maybe it was the fact that he was a nobleman, yet he was a rogue. Being a nobleman placed him higher than most, yet still lower than herself.
"Really?" She asked, leaning in like he had, but with a small smirk on her lips. "Well, that doesn't answer my question of why you are here." Her blue-grey eyes staring into the eyes that looked back at her.

“Really? You don’t want to know my name?” He grinned, very slightly, but jumped down so that he was standing on the same level as she was. “Then, fear not fair maid, for I won’t force your delicate ears to listen to my rough voice.” And with that, he pocketed his gold coin with a punctual movement. It would buy him a nice, thoroughly alcoholic drink later, if nothing else. Will quite liked drinking as much as he liked watching the other people in pubs go about their business. It was interesting and it gave him a long store of personalities to put away for future imitation, should he ever need to borrow their names and mannerisms if he ever was in a tight spot. And heaven only knew that Will was almost always in a tight spot.
He grinned. He really didn’t mind her interrogation. After all, he was the one with the sword, although he wouldn’t raise it against her, seeing as she was a girl and all that. Will didn’t fight girls unless they could fight back and even then, he kept it at civilized fencing matches or archery competitions and he kept his insults a little softer than he normally did with the men who dared to spar with him. For them, he was mean and as nasty as possible.
“Business,” He waved an airy hand, “I told you before I’m a rogue. I roam where I want to, no strings attached.” Of course he wasn’t going to say anything on keeping taps on the prince; he wasn’t stupid. Foolish, maybe, but far from stupid. “Why?” He continued, a cruel idea coming to mind, “who died and made you queen?”

"Okay, fine." She said, crossing her arms. "Tell me your name young rogue. I'll just pretend I care." Violet watched him pocket the piece of gold. It made her wonder what he would use it for. Was he an alcoholic? Would he use it for food, or maybe clothes? All these questions swarmed throughout her mind all because of a piece of gold that he just happened to pick up.
"Business?" She questioned, not believing him. "What kind of business?" She was going to push until she got the answer she wanted. "Why? Because I want to know, and I have the right to know." He aggravated her. Why couldn't he just tell her the truth? He probably couldn't because he was going to cause trouble. She scoffed at his last comment and glared at him.
"Mind you, I am a princess of Soar and I can question you all I want." She pointed above her. "That boy is my brother and I demand to know why you are under here, particulary below him." She didn't understand why everyone she met lately had to be so difficult. He was being difficult, and she wanted it to stop.
She let her gaze travel to above her. She thought about her brother and how he had been speaking. She knew she couldn't stay under the stage too much longer. If she did, her brother would worry about her whereabouts and then send the guards off to find her. At the same time, she wanted to stay. She wanted to figure this man out. Why he was under the stage? Why come all the way to Soar for business? She knew that Great Britain was not a friend of Soar. They could possibly become enemies in the future.

Will raised his eyebrows in mock surprise. He wasn’t going to tell her his name, of course, he would have loved to, seeing as it was such a source of pride in him. He very much enjoyed informing people that they were talking to Will Scarlet, Outlaw of Sherwood. He usually didn’t even have to mention is even more famous cousin, Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, but to tell her would be complying with her wishes, and seeing as she was the demanding little vixen she was portraying herself as, he would do no such thing.
He crossed his arms and stared back at her, as stubborn as a twelve-year-old nobleman’s daughter refusing to wear a certain dress. “You think I’m going to make things that easy for you? Oh no, your highness, I’m going to make you figure everything out by yourself.” He smirked, “Or I could just shout it out as I make my dramatic exit from our scene today. You know, I could just take you with me, but you’re quite annoying for all the trouble I would have to go to for a proper kidnapping. Best you just stay here.”
Glancing up at the ceiling, he smirked. Now, at least he had a reason to roundly abuse the boy giving the endless speech. He was still going on, by the way, which irked Will, even though he wasn’t listening to a word of the monologue. “That prat is your brother? Oh, well, that explains a lot. Your parents must be so proud of him, going on and on about meaningless rubbish, like he is. I can hear the family resemblance in your speech. So arrogant, so self-impressed.” He grinned.
“Use your mind, if you have one, your majesty.” He quipped, exceedingly pleased with how the conversation was tipping in his favor. This girl thought she was in control merely because she was a princess, but Will was the one who held the reins. She had neither sword, nor any other type of weapon and even if she did, the outlaw doubted she would have known how to use it properly, especially against him.

Violet raised an eyebrow at the man crossing his arms. So he wanted to be stubborn then. She could handle stubborn. She had a little sister who was always stubborn. It wasn't that hard to handle, since that was the way she was too. "So, first you give me no name, and then you go about saying you won't tell me what you're planning." She paused as she looked him up and down. "Fine, if that's how you want to play, then so be it. I can play that game too."
She smirked at him as she shifted her weight onto her left leg. "But I have to say, I'm surprised. I can't believe what my ears hear." She swiftly moved her bangs out of her face. "A man, playing it off as tough, can't handle a girl like me. That's so adorable." She said teasing the man. She really wasn't afraid of him taking her. "And trouble? What real man would be scared of a little trouble?" Teasing the man was fun to her and it was helpful that she was in the mood to do so.
Violet sent a glare in the man's direction when he spoke of her brother. "My brother is not a prat! And yes, my parents are very proud of him, unlike your parents I'm sure." She let out a small sigh and crossed her arms. "And call me whatever you like, but really you're acting the same way and it's not going to bother me one bit."
She let out a small chuckle at the mans words. "Fine, I'll use my mind." She rolled her eyes and then reached into her cloak to pull out the coin bag once more. "I see you like gold. How 'bout, I give you a bit more gold and you leave quietly, without doing whatever you were planning." She reached into the bag and pulled out one piece of gold to hold it up. "Look at the plus side of this, you can... get yourself something nice. Maybe kill yourself with alcohol poisoning if that's the way you roll." She smiled sweetly at him, pretending to be sweet at least.
