Small rocks shifted or fell aside as the pitch black stallion slowly made his way up the side of the mountain. A fine mist rose into the air as he breathed out as he went at this steady pace, a young woman wearing a black cloak mounted on his back.
Eventually the pair reached the top and looked over to the horizon where a dark castle stood proudly on the edge of the sea. The tyrant kings castle.
Rayne Helsing lowered her hood, letting her long dark red hair fall out down her back. She thought back to the last few days. She had been allied and loyal to the king; then she was fighting in the battle.... next thing she realised was that she had been healed of injury by a silmaril knight! How life could be crazy at times.... now because she had a beating heart and turned soft Rayne knew that she couldn't go back to the army. There was no room for the soft hearted.
The girl knew that she was risking the trust that one of the knights had in her by coming here to the border... but she had to take one last look at the castle again. He would understand.... she hoped.

Peregrine was out, trying to scout out a fox or two to hunt on boxing day when he spotted a lone figure on an ebony black horse crossing the border from Sceith to Erroterra.
"D**n mages." He muttered agrilly. "Sneaking over, is he? They never learn, these Sceithians." He said to himself and to Vollo. With a final exhalation of breath with formed frost in the cold, snowy air, he wrapped his legs around Vollo's barrel and set off towards the approaching figure at a fast canter. Vollo's hoffbeats sounded regular and offial to his ears.
As he neared the figure, he recognized something similar about her. He noted that she had red hair, the exact same shade of color and length that Rayne Helsing, the dhampire from the houses of healing had possessed. He allowed Vollo to about ten feet away from the dhampire before pulling back his bow string all the way, he had knocked an arrow as Vollo had been cantering towards her. And now that they were there he pulled back the string of the loaded bow all the way and aimed his weapon straight at her nearly-installed heart.
"Halt Sceithian spy." He commanded in a firm, no-nosense voice. "This is Silmaril land, and you are now under arrest. Drop your weapons or the wrath of the Silmarils shall be unleashed upon you."

"Halt Sceithian spy".
The silence of the early morning which had only been broken by Helsing's ((the horse)) breathing and footfalls was shattered as the voice sounded. How familiar it was... Peregrine Alexander. Rayne didn't even smirk when she heard his voice.... believing her to be the spy that she used to be.
Instead she just kept her back to him as she looked at the castle with a painful longing.... it had been her home, now she couldn't even go visit her..... friends? No, friends wasn't the right word.... collegues. That was better.
"Are you going to kill me captain?" she asked revealing her identity to him. "Like you tried to during the battle?" She turned her head to look at him out of the corner of her eye. There was something clear and glistening, trickling down her cheek. Was that a tear? "Go ahead.... I have nothing to live for...." she said, daring him to try. A breeze started to blow, shifting her cloak revealing that she was unarmed. Rayne turned her gaze back towards the castle. Not anymore...

Peregrine growled, noticing her crying.
"Oh, I now you're trying to get me to have pity on you, aren't you, mage?" He asked scathying. "But I'm not going to kill you, you yourself said King Tyrannous valued you highly. No, its the dungeons of Erroterra I have in mind." He paused, then said, "The way I see it you have two opions at this moment, throw down your weapons and surrender, or you can try to fight, but that would work, you see, I only need blow this horn before a host of kinghts will arrive in seconds."
The knights Peregrine spoke of, weren't as close as he told her they were, but one was closer then he had spoke of. Young Will Skip was riding Queen in the mountains that early morning as well when he heard Peregrine's voice. Curious, the boy rode up to the scebe at hand.
"What's the matter, Pippin?" He asked when he arived on the scene, then he spotted the Rayne. "Who is she?" He asked again, his voice suddenly serious. As if to be prepared if he needed it, he set his hand on he hilt of his sword.

Rayne looked over her shoulder again, taking note of the newcomer. It seemed as if there was no way out.... even for the dhampir. She could take Peregrine and his companion down easily before either of them could scream... along with their horses. But no..... she wasn't going to do that. She didn't want to..... not that she needed to feed anyway. Dhampir's only needed to feed once or twice a month.
"On the contrary Alexander", she spoke up boldly, not bothering to wipe away her tears. "Pity is not something that even I would give. And the king may hold me in high regard... but he would not except softness, nor would he pay a ranson".
Rayne turned Helsing around to face the boys better. "That is what you are attempting to do?" she asked. "Take me captive and hold me for ranson?". She didn't take her eyes of him. "And you will find that I am unarmed...", Rayne stated simply. "Sorry to dissappoint you".
((she doesnt know about her powers yet. Particularly the one where she can control fire))

"Whatever the circumstances." Peregrine said, "You are known be a Sceithian and we are known to be Silmarils. Silmaril are at war with Sceithians, simple as that." He paused, then continued, "Therefore, whether the King holds you in high reguard or not, we intend to hold you prisoner of war. You have wandered onto our lands and now you shall pay the consequences, which, I'm sure would be the same treatment we would get in Sceith."
Will spoke up,
"Peregrine, there is a chance that she telling the truth. Maybe she does reallly want to switch sides."
"I doubt that. One can't believe everything he hears." Peregrine told him.
"If you hadn't believed me, I wouldn't be here right now." Will protested.
"Yeah, well, that was different." Peregrine said, "You were only thirteen and we did keep you locked up for awhile, and you weren't a Sceithian."
Will didn't respond. He still thought Peregrine was being too harsh, but it was not his place to say so.So instead he rode up to the dhampire's horse and took the animal's reins in his iron-strong grip.
"I'm sorry." he said gently, "But we have to do this, wouldn't you if you were in our shoes?"

Rayne turned her head to look Will in the eye. Her gaze was soft and gentle... almost forgiving. "Perhaps in the past", she answered. "But I'm sure your treatment would have been far worse than I am to endure".
Rayne dropped the reins from her hands and raised her hood, her bright red eyes being hidden in the darkness. She turned her attention back to Peregrine. "Maybe you should listen to the young knight...." she said simply. "Seeing is believeing. If my alligence was still strong to the King... wouldn't I naturally be resisting arrest?" She knew that she was speaking the truth.... all other Sceithians would resist. Why wasn't she? Perhaps the boy was right..... maybe she did have no desire to return to the army.

"Yes, on instinct and without order other Sceithians would fight, but you are not. How I am supposed to know whether or not you're involved in a plot to get instide the Silmaril Knights, making us think that's you've switched sides, and then report back to the king in secret. I don't think he'd have much objection to having a few of his soldiers killed in the process, would he not? He's quite an evil man, isn't he?" Peregrine sait the last part with a lighter tone in his voice, it was almost conversational.
Will looked over at Peregrine, then back at the woman.
"You know, he does have apoint." Will said, and his pulled slightly leaned over in his own saddle and clipped a rein to each ring of the horse's bit, Peregrine came up on the other side and took one rein, so that each knight held a rein on each side of the horse, surrounding him.

Rayne sighed, this was getting tiring. If she had been under orders..... she would have killed them by now. That had been her job... kill off the knights one by one..... but she didn't do that anymore.
"I assure you.... I am no spy", she hissed, the frustration showing in her tone. "I have no desire to return to the Kings Army.... even if you believe my alligence and loyalty is to him. I do not want to go back there. Sceithian trained or not!"

Peregrine shook his head in disbelief.
"Whatever you say, we can't take your word for it." He said, then his tone became kinder. "I'm sorry, but these times leave us no alternative but to do this, we cannot do anything else in Sabastian gets back."
(((Sebastian is one of my coming soon characters.))
Both boys gave a tug on the reins as if to encourage the horse forward at a walk. As if to add drama to the current situation, it began to rain, rain, not pour, but just rain. And not in the happy way as one see's rain after a drought. It began to rain in a dismal, depressing, sad way.

Helsing snorted and stamped a hoof, refusing to move. Rayne sighed and leaned down to whisper in his ear. Then she sat up when the horse nickered and Helsing stepped out willingly, but his ears were layed back flat against his powerful neck.
Rayne turned to Will, knowing that Peregrine wouldn't answer her next question. "If I might ask..... who is Sebastian?"

"A seer." Will said, that's all I know about him though, you should ask Peregrine though. He said, leading Helsing forward, then Peregrine spoke.
"He is, as Will said, a seer, but more specially he is the seer who is blind but can see. He knows immediately if people are telling the truth or not." Peregrine said, "More then that would be unsafe to tell you until we set up a little chat between you and Sbastian." He pulled losing on his side of Helsing's rein.

Helsing snorted and tossed up his head, the stallion hated being restrained. "Steady my pet", Rayne murmured, stroking the ridge of his mane. "Steady". For someone who was sceithian trained and accussed of being a spy, she was doing a great deal in keeping the stallion calm.
"A seer of truth", she commented. "A fine and worthy talent indeed. If the King found out... he'd order the seer killed". She looked at Peregrine, truth showing in her gaze. "But I am not going to be the one to tell him".
((Rayne is Zarita Aurora's older 1/2 sister. Rayne = 1700, Zarita = 17. haha, big age difference))

"Order him killed?" He asked, he shook his head, "If the king found out, he'd probably order to have him captured, not killed." He said, "And even if he did, I doubt he would be very sucessful, he's on our side, you see. And as you have noticed, its a little difficult to get past us over the pass, there is always someone guarding the passes." He said as Vollo broke into a trot, eager to get back home and Will;s horse, Queen, followed his lead, looking forward o her dinner as all horses did. For a moment, there was silence, no one said anything, then...

Rayne quirked and eyebrow then lowered it. There was truth in what he said.... but as always, there was a way around these things. She fell into silence when the smell of burning caught her nose and she gagged. She slouched forward coughing uncontrollably and Helsing's eyes turned white with fear. He pulled back whinnying wildly.
"Do not smell that?" Rayne gasped, choaking for air. "Do you not smell burning?"
((FYI: A villiage in the mountains has just been set on fire by a Sceithian raiding party))
