The Queen of Skye and ruler of the Druids Mizukey Kyoto has been engaged...to Peregrine Alexander, crown prince of Saor?
Surprise to both rulers, for little did they know that during the first years of their early childhoods, King Paladin had forcibly had his eldest son engaged to the next Queen of Saor and thus, when they were joined in holy matrimony, Skye would be under the full control of Saor.
But there is one small problem: Peregrine and Mizukey had no intention of marrying on another. In fact, Mizukey isn't even planning on getting married and Peregrine's madly in love with Meg, the ex-slave girl of Saor. Besides this, Mizukey and Peregrine had formed a mutual bond of friendship over the years and the prince finds the idea of marrying his good friend positively revolting.
However, the two can hardly just call the whole thing off, for Peregrine is under control of his father, the King, who had threatened to invade Skye with all of his military strength if the queen refuses and this leaves her with three very nasty choices:
- refuse point-blank and have Skye invaded by a powerful neighbor, which will kill many of her people
- refuse and try to muster an army of Druids, even though the Druid population doesn't fight
- accept the marriage proposal and marry Peregrine, thus handing Skye over to the Scoailte royalty without any violence.
Which will she choose? And what will Peregrine hear when he learns of the news? Will he starts a rebellious civil war against his own father, elope with Meg to England or seek to have himself magically disowned and in so doing give up his claim to the throne so that he can live an unstained life for Meg? And speaking of Meg, what will her reaction be? Who else will become tangled up in this? Only time and most probably a few skirmishes will tell.
