I despise smoking, everypart of it, its pointless, its harmful and completely unecessary. People say they try to quit but their addiction is too strong, more like their mind is too weak.
I think it should be banned completely, and a fine should be introduced for anyone caught smoking, what do you guys think?

Mate... I know several people that do/have smoked. 1. My sister 2. Control Freak (mum) 3. Cousin 4. Aunty 5. Nonna (Canning) 6. James 7. Neglector (Dad)
2, 6, 7 = Quit 1, 3, 4 = Smokers 5 = Smoker but now deceased
And I dont think any of their minds are too weak. Only misguided. 1, 3, 4 smoke under stress. 2 occasionally smokes under stress 6, 7 used to smoke but dont anymore. foul habbit 5 just couldn't bite an old habbit

Their minds aren't weak Deimos, the addiction is just too strong.
I myself loathe smoking with a strong passion. One, I really do not want to contract cancer or have someone I care about contract cancer because some person forces them to second-hand smoke. Two, I'm allergic to something in the stuff, and I get a nearly-instant headache if I so much as sniff it. At school people do it constantly, I swear, some people just don't read DINNING AREA SMOKING PROHIBITED. It drives me crazy and I never really knew my grandfather because he died when I was very young at the hand of lung caused by smoking. Oh, and I believe it's disgusting anyway, I hate it like you would not believe.

the funniest thing about smoker is that most are hipocritical, remember people, i said MOST, not all
here are a few examples
1. i have seen this many times, people say that they want to go outside to get some fresh air, then they light up a smoke, in full view of everybody else so it is obvious it is not fresh air
2. Smokers say they want to live life to the fullest, while they are smoking, i call them idiots and slap them
3. Most people believe suicide is selfish ((who knows why)) and yet most people smoke, there is no difference between suicide and smoking, albeit its a lot slower

Deimos... You know as well as I that I hate to bring up ancient history. But remember Midnight? Yes... Midnight Marie Cortez is a smoker currently trying to quit.
You know that she tried to kill herself... she has the scars on her wrists to proove it. She at one time did drugs... not because she wanted to.... because her brother was into it and she wanted to keep him safe. He'd have none after she was finished. She hasn't quit smoking because of that bloody fiance of hers, Nicolai Alejandro. *scowls at the name*. She's stressed
But she falls into that catergory of people that step outside to smoke. Atleast they have the decentcy to.... and you call them hipocritical. You have to look at ALL levels Deimos
And as for my Nonna. She couldn't bite the habbit. She claimed the patches were too strong (very mild ones at that) and gave her a rash (BS!). And her overall claim "it's just too hard". She just couldn't do it... and then she started to smoke inside. I litterally couldn't breathe when i was up there so i spent most of my days outside because of it. By the end she kept saying that it hurt to breathe when she wasnt smoking... only because there was no fresh air in the house. When she went into hospital we threw away her cigarettes... even with her protests. And I kept her lighter.... being the pyro i am
So you see Deimos... some people just cant quit because the addiction is too strong. And others choose not to because they are stressed and need some form of release. Mine might be beating up a punching bag... but others choose cigarettes.

I would have to agree with the mastermind above me, some people choose to smoke because they are too stressed out. My own mother smokes, I hate smoking with each and every fiber of my being, and am sure i will never start, i hate it when my mom smokes, i get sick, i mean vomiting sick from smelling it, and i literally cant breath, i have almost fainted because of lack of air from breathing in her second hand smoke.
My mother has tried to quit multiple times, but both me and her have a bad tolorance for medicen, we only take it if we have to, most only makes us worse,(remembers when i was little and took claratin for my 'alergies'(the ones that didn't really exist except to the incorrect doctors)) Anyways, if we have a head ache or something, and i mean it has to be a really bad headache, then we may take half the normal people amount. So she cant use the patches, she has tried gum, mints and there was even a pill that worked for a long time, but then she re-started college to get a different degree and the stress was so bad she started again.
Its not as if the craving was bad, the pills actually targeted that part of the brain and she didn't even have a craving anymore, it was really out of habit, when you have smoked for a long time, its normal to light one when your nervice or stressed.
Actually, shes smoking right now, reading her book at the same time (another trait, me and my momma both love to read for hours on end) She normally doesn't do it anymore when i am in the room, because i get sick, normally, she says she is going to try again, but she has tried so many times, i dont think it will work. On the plus side, smokeing does not exactly kill you, my mom has been smoking since she was 14-15, and now shes 50, she is a very productive person with a good job at the JSC (juvinile jail) Shes even a corprel.(Sp) (a corpral is just a position that is really high, and she is like their number one trainer, ((i mean she trains the new staff)) she is always training because she follows ever rule and never ever breaks one.) My grandfather is old, not sure how old, but if my mother is 50 then hes older then fifty, and they have been married for fifty something years then guess how old he is i guess, and he has smoked for forever, and just recently quit and he doesn't have any lasting side effects (Except for lung thing that they think may have been caused by exposure to some chemical while he was in the navy instead of smokeing.)
My point is that smokers arn't evil, or have strong will power, and that smoking does not nessisarally kill you (But im still not going to ever start.)

I have to disagree with some stuff, to an extent, smoking addiction is mental. Anyone who smokes more then once a day can thank their own minds. Nicotine stays in the body for 24 hours. Quitting really is a mental game, it's all about how much the smoker wants it. And most of the time, people fail to quit because they don't care and/or don't take the medication properly. A women who doesn't want a child can remember her BC pill everyday, an elderly man who wants to keep living can make sure to remember his heart medication daily, because it's something they really want.
As for smoking medication, people don't read the label. The gum is meant for smokeless tobacco users, the lozenge is fully dependant on the time of first cigarette, not how many per day, and you can't chew it. The nasal spray most closely resembles the affects of cigarette smoking. As for irritation from the patch, move it around everytime, that's how it's meant to be placed anyway. And if anyone is still smoking at all while taking these medications, it's called nicotine excess and often mimics the signs of withdrawl. There are 8 kinds of medication available that people just won't try. If they do try, they quit because it irritates them. If a patient complains about irritation at first, doctors won't tell them to stop, because the irritation usually goes away in a week or two, once the body adjusts itself. The body is always adjusting itself every minute of everyday, some times just take a bit longer then others.

I know a couple of people who smoke/have smoked. One is the mother of a friend of mine, but when she got sick, it wasn't lung cancer but some weird thing contracted by too much drinking and smoking, she and her husband stopped because they realized how dangerous it is. My aunt is dying of huntingtons korea, she smokes because she's going to die anyways and everyone has given up stopping her. She's in so much pain and distress from the huntingtons that the sooner she goes the better it is for her. So Deimos, though this is actually a good and valid subject for once, you still need to work on looking at every aspect of an issue before judging it completely. I for one don't like smoking because I have an extremely sensitive nose and throat, it sets me coughing every time I smell it. So I hug my aunt as little as possible while still being polite.

it's just that the outcome is the same. both smokers and passives get these diseases and since you were dissing smokers cause of the end result does than mean you don't like the passives?
